They allow audiences to hear artists talk about what they do. At the Art Bar, drummer and radio host Carlton Jackson rounded up four prominent drummers and asked them:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;When every element is in perfect alignment&#151;compatible musicians, the right room, good sound&#151;how do you approach the music?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s some of what they said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Jack DeJohnette<\/strong>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I go into an alternate space, and once I touch a cymbal or other component of the instrument, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m off.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Lewis Nash<\/strong>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I feel a wave of gratitude to be a part of it.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Chris Brown<\/strong>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It allows me to get back to being like a baby&#151;that sense of wonderment, discovery.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Joey Baron<\/strong>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Clock time stops. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m right there, right then. I never know if it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clicking until the music starts. I enjoy surprise.
