The others are pianist, singer and songwriter Mose Allison; alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson; Owner Lorraine Gordon of New York\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Village Vanguard; and writer A. B. Spellman. Tonight and tomorrow night, Palmieri is being recognized by Jazz at Lincoln Center in concerts reprising the 76-year-old pianist\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s career. From the JALC announcement: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On this evening, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153El Rey de las Blancas y Las Negras\u00e2\u20ac\u009d retrospects on his spectacular career with both The Eddie Palmieri Orchestra and his Afro-Caribbean Jazz Octet, coalescing his form-stretching salsa innovations with his sui generis brand of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153jazz Latino.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Larry Rohter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/12\/14\/arts\/music\/eddie-palmieri-ties-together-musical-genres.html?ref=arts&#038;_r=0\"target=\"_blank\"><em>New York Times<\/em> piece<\/a> has details about this weekend\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s events at Lincoln Center and a survey of Palmieri\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s work, which has won nine Grammy awards. <\/p>\n<p>Among the most enduring and engaging of Palmieri\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s albums is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/El-Sonido-Nuevo-Soul-Sound\/dp\/B0000046RA\/?_encoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20\"target=\"_blank\"><em>El Sonido Nuevo<\/em><\/a>, a 1966 collaboration with another major figure in Latin music and jazz, Cal Tjader. In 1967, Tjader recorded with Palmieri\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s band. The resulting album was <em>Bamboleate<\/em>.
