The cornetist was born in 1931 in Tampa, Florida. His distinguished career <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Nat-Adderley.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Nat-Adderley.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Nat Adderley\" width=\"153\" height=\"134\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4253\" \/><\/a>included two extended periods in his brother Cannonball\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quintet. He also played in the big bands of Woody Herman and Lionel Hampton and in trombonist J.J. Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s combo. Adderley formed his own quintet after Cannonball died in 1975. <\/p>\n<p>\nFor the 1987 Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland, He led an all-star sextet. His former boss, Johnson, joined Adderley, tenor saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Richard Davis and drummer Roy McCurdy.
