Following the obligatory<br \/>\noratory by PeeWee Marquette, Jones\u00e2\u20ac\u201dvery clean in a hip three-piece Ivy<br \/>\nLeague suit\u00e2\u20ac\u201dslid  behind the drums and counted off the first tune, one<br \/>\nof those up-tempo bop jobs that discouraged amateurs from even thinking<br \/>\nof sitting in.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>There&#8217;s Philly Joe, with one stick tucked under his arm, adjusting the<br \/>\nangle of the cymbals and tightening the head of the snare with his free<br \/>\nhand while never missing an accent on the complex chart with his other<br \/>\nextremities\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand smiling a satisfied smile that said, (to me, at least)<br \/>\n&#8220;I got this thing covered, baby, stand back!&#8221;   And, at the exact moment<br \/>\nthe band reached the end of the head and arrived at bar one of the first<br \/>\nsolo, Philly Joe finished his fine-tuning, put the second stick in hand<br \/>\nand gave his sideman a thunderous press roll as a launch pad.
