The concerto reflects Brubeck\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rangy interests and skills in classical music, jazz and rock. That may indicate a bouillabaisse of a composition, but the piece has coherence, unity, and good-natured seriousness. The concerto comes in three movements titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Return of the Prince,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Song of the Mountains\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Dance of the Neocons.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I think that it is likely to further advance the reputation of Dave Brubeck\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s number-three son as an American composer of standing and substance. The concerto is one of three of his compositions on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?link_code=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB000B5UNGA%2Fqid%3D1136874749%2Fsr%3D8-1%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_1%3Fn%3D507846%2526s%3Dclassical%2526v%3Dglance\"target=\"_blank\">this new compact disc<\/a>. <em>River of Song<\/em> has ravishing singing by Frederica von Stade; Brubeck keeps good company. The other major work on the YSO program will be Leonard Bernstein\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?link_code=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB00008J2P0%2Fqid%3D1136875308%2Fsr%3D1-1%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1%3Fs%3Dclassical%2526v%3Dglance%2526n%3D5174\"target=\"_blank\"><em>Three Dance Episodes from On The Town<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\nIn addition to the trombone concerto, the concert will present the quartet led by Chris, playing trombone and bass, and his brother Danny, a gifted drummer. Their colleagues are guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb. They will play three pieces by Dave Brubeck\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Cassandra,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153In Your Own Sweet Way,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Blue Rondo a la Turk,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in addition to Chris Brubeck\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re Still in Love After All These Years.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d If there is an encore, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s likely to be\u00e2\u20ac\u201dguess what?
