Rugolo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s composing and arranging, particularly for the Stan Kenton Orchestra, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Rugolo-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Rugolo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Rugolo 2\" width=\"120\" height=\"114\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3017\" \/><\/a>had much to do in the 1940s and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc50s with the creation of what came to be called progressive jazz. As a discoverer of talent and as a producer, he was responsible for recording a number of artists including Peggy Lee and Mel Torm\u00c3\u00a9. He produced the seminally influential Miles Davis <em>Birth of the Cool<\/em> sessions of 1949 and \u00e2\u20ac\u212250. Later, Rugolo led a band of his own and composed theme music for several successful television series, among them <em>The Thin Man<\/em>, <em>The Fugitive<\/em> and <em>Run For Your Life<\/em>.
