From a pure sound standpoint, in the melody choruses of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wendy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153My Funny Valentine,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Take Five\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and other pieces associated with Desmond, he is almost eerily like his predecessor, but in the blowing choruses his harmonic approach and tonal characteristics earmark his individuality. Babad\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quotes may not quite achieve Desmond\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sly subversiveness, but they are literate and entertaining. His \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jan\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is a lovely ballad, his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153B.A.B.A.D\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a witty \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Got Rhythm\u00e2\u20ac\u009d contrafact. Guitarist Larry Koonse, pianist Ed Czach, bassist Luther Hughes and drummer Steve Barnes are superb.
