Flanigan died on May 15 at his home in Las Vegas. He was 84.<\/p>\n<p>As if to validate the group, many of his obituaries dwelled on Flanigan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and the Freshmens\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 influence on the Beach Boys and other pop performers of the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc60s and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc70s. The Freshmen validated themselves through excellence as singers and instrumentalists. In this video from a 1964 Japan tour, Flanigan has the trombone solo on one of the Freshmen\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest hits.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"440\" height=\"355\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P9pD536mk60?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><p>Flanigan was the last original member of the Four Freshmen to retire, in 1992. But his association with it did not stop.
