He published a book in 2007 that may be a biography, a novel, or both. Its title in French is <em>Paul Desmond et le c\u00c3\u00b4t\u00c3\u00a9 f\u00c3\u00a9minin du monde<\/em>, or <em>Paul Desmond and the Feminine<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/Desmond%20a%20la%20Francais.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Desmond a la Francais.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/assets_c\/2010\/07\/Desmond a la Francais-thumb-121x195-16580.jpg\" width=\"121\" height=\"195\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;\" \/><\/a> Side of the World<\/em>. That is the extent of my ability to translate from French to English, and I owe it to Google. I&#8217;m the guy who gets by in France for two weeks at a time with <em>Excusez-moi de vous deranger<\/em>. I would give about anything&#151;let&#8217;s say a bottle of Dewars&#151;to read that passage to him, looking up and pausing after &#8220;groping her horn-rimmed spectacles.&#8221; Paul infrequently laughed out loud. He was more given to knowing chuckles, but that line might have done the trick. I can find no evidence that <em>Paul Desmond et le c\u00c3\u00b4t\u00c3\u00a9 f\u00c3\u00a9minin du monde<\/em> exists in anything but French.<br \/>\nSkill in languages is unnecessary for the enjoyment of Desmond, Jim Hall, Gene Wright and Connie Kay playing Matt Dennis&#8217;s timeless ballad &#8220;Angel Eyes.&#8221; This is from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGlad-Be-Unhappy-Paul-Desmond%2Fdp%2FB00005IAWT&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325\"target=\"_blank\">one of Paul&#8217;s RCA quartet albums<\/a> of the 1960s.
