We hear Bickert and Desmond with bassist Don Thompson and drummer Jerry Fuller. They play Desmond\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s composition \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wendy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<div align=\"&quot;center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8221;\u00a0 &#8221;\u00a0 &#8221;\u00a0 &#8221;\u00a0 &#8221;\u00a0 &#8221;\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m_XU8Vdbr8Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Desmond based \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wendy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on the chord structure of one of his favorite ballads, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153For All We Know.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He named the piece for a woman who was a romantic interest. That was after a few title changes. In an interview for my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Take-Five-Public-Private-Desmond-ebook\/dp\/B00DLTK7I2\">Desmond biography<\/a>, bassist Thompson traced the final change to the tune&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153What I do know,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Thompson told me, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153is that it waffled between \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPittsburgh\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWendy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for a long time. It was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPittsburgh&#8217; for quite a while, actually, then one night he came in and said, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcI think it might not be \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPittsburgh.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 It might be \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWendy.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Then when we went to San Francisco to play the El Matador, he came in with this young girl with dark hair. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all I remember about her. When he introduced her to me, he said, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDon, I want you to meet Pittsburgh.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 I broke up because this was the Wendy whom nobody knew until then.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In another piece by Bickert with Desmond from the <em><a href=\"target=\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pure Desmond<\/a><\/em> album (1974), Ron Carter is the bassist, Connie Kay the drummer in Fats Waller&#8217;s &#8220;Just Squeeze Me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It turns out that <em>YouTube<\/em> will not allow that piece to be embedded.
