Here is Jim&#8217;s&#8221;\u00a0announcement, which includes a link to KNKX &#8221;\u00a0and the broadcasts:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/181228_0267-e1547183298314.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10860\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/181228_0267-e1547183298314.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"332\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a>The 30th annual presentation of the Sacred Music of Duke Ellington took place on December 28, 2018 at St. Mark&#8217;s Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle before a capacity audience. &#8221;\u00a0Featuring vocal soloists Stephen Newby (pictured left) and Nichol Vene\u00c3\u00a9 Eskrdge (pictured right), the Northwest Chamber Chorus and the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra conducted by Michael Brockman,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/181228_0343-e1547183446232.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/181228_0343-e1547183446232.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a> Ellington&#8217;s rich score filled every corner of the great cathedral. &#8221;\u00a0The concert was recorded for radio and Part 1 will be broadcast on <i>Jazz Northwest<\/i>&#8221;\u00a0on Sunday, January 13 at 2 PM Pacific time on 88.5 KNKX, and simulcast worldwide on <a href=\"http:\/\/knkx.org\/\">knkx.org<\/a>. &#8221;\u00a0 Part 2 will air on the same program on February 3.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Duke Ellington composed music for three Sacred Music concerts late in his life, premiering in 1965, 1967 and 1973. &#8221;\u00a0The music was performed in great cathedrals in San Francisco, New York, London and elsewhere. &#8221;\u00a0New music was mixed with a few Ellington classics in appropriate new arrangements to make up the suites.
