All of the students had heard \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Maiden Voyage,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d my planned selection. So on a whim, I went to <em>YouTube<\/em> and got up<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Desmond-looking-left-e1543968103359.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-10753\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Desmond-looking-left-e1543968103359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"168\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a> Desmond\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Feelin'&#8221;\u00a0Groovy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d from his Paul Simon album. It has a wonderful Herbie solo and, of course, an equally wonderful one by Desmond (pictured right). All of the hipsters in the class, none of whom had heard this album, were enthralled. This album deserves more attention than it has received. In its own way, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a timeless classic. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s too bad that Desmond, Herbie, and Ron Carter never did a live gig together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To hear the track, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MTVAJ20Bww4\">go here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-align: left;\">As you no doubt noticed, &#8221;\u00a0with &#8220;Feelin&#8217; Groovy,&#8221; you get two Desmonds for the price of one. Thanks to Bill for reminding us of the album. And thanks to A&amp;M, or whoever owns the rights these days, for keeping it <\/span><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2P7qz3O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available,&#8221;\u00a0<\/a><span style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8221;\u00a0even though they wouldn&#8217;t let us embed it here.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Lisa Hilton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Coincidentally, as I was later auditioning recently-arrived recordings for possible review, up popped a track from pianist Lisa Hilton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>Oasis<\/em> CD. It has some of the same insouciant spirit as much of Desmond\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1969 Simon and Garfunkel album. The track is titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lazy Daisy.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d It turned out that the entire album had a bit of that feeling, which is abetted by the bass playing of Luques Curtis and the drumming of Mark Whitfield, Jr. Only the title track is available by way of an advance internet promotional video, but it will give you the idea.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SaEp-EsU8mw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The swimmer in the video is not identified. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not complaining. If you haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t heard it in a while, maybe it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s time you did.
