{"id":1000,"date":"2007-07-09T01:03:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-09T08:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/?p=1000"},"modified":"2007-07-09T01:03:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-09T08:03:00","slug":"take_five_by_twelve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/2007\/07\/take_five_by_twelve\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Take Five&#8221; By Twelve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parksidepublications.com\/takefive.html\"target=\"_blank\"><em>Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond<\/em><\/a>, I told of having heard Desmond&#8217;s &#8220;Take Five&#8221; on a music box in a Prague gift shop and in a number of other unlikely places including the Mexico City subway and my neighborhood gas station.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There are sheet music arrangements of &#8220;Take Five&#8221; for solo piano, brass band, chorus, accordian, guitar, flute choir, string orchestra, drum and percussion and&#8211;I swear&#8211;hand bells.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To the list of unusual performances of &#8220;Take Five&#8221; you may now add the <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=_mR_Sxf17W0\"target=\"_blank\">12 Girls Band live at Budokan<\/a>. The short solo beginning a minute and four seconds into the performance seems truly improvised.
