But when I was walking down 9th Avenue last night, this confused me:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2011\/09\/at-any-moment-a-great-blog-post\/attachment\/387551627\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-735\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-735\" title=\"387551627\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/387551627.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/387551627.jpg 464w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/387551627-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maybe it was the two margaritas I&#8217;d sucked down at El Centro, but &#8220;At any moment, a Great Moment&#8221; with a photo of Anna Netrebko in <em>Manon<\/em> just does not make sense.\u00a0 First of all, you can&#8217;t see her face; it&#8217;s all corseted torso. I guess that&#8217;s&#8230;sexy? Sure, let&#8217;s say &#8220;sexy&#8221;. Second, <em>is <\/em>that a great moment, musical or otherwise? Third, I take Meaningful Capitalization very seriously, and &#8220;Great Moment&#8221; doesn&#8217;t earn it\/own it for me. Fourth, Anna Netrebko is opening the season with <em>Anna Bolena: <\/em>what happened to all the imagery that was around Lincoln Center and in the season brochure? I thought they were going for a whole <em>The Tudors <\/em>homage thing? Shouldn&#8217;t they be selling a bel canto opera that no one ever hears now, and worry about <em>Manon<\/em> in the spring?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2011\/09\/at-any-moment-a-great-blog-post\/anna_bolenna\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-737\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-737\" title=\"anna_bolenna\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/anna_bolenna.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"605\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/anna_bolenna.png 518w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/anna_bolenna-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fourth, the Yankees totally used the exact same slogan in 1991, which I managed to remember in the dead of night despite the margaritas. Evidence provided on Twitter via <a title=\"Zach Woolfe Twitter\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/zwoolfe\">@zwoolfe<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2011\/09\/at-any-moment-a-great-blog-post\/ca7a_35\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-736\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-736\" title=\"ca7a_35\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/ca7a_35.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"635\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t Rubenstein PR represent both The Met and the Yankees? And doesn&#8217;t that slogan only actually work for a sporting event, when an outcome isn&#8217;t known? I mean, we already know the great moments in <em>Manon<\/em>, don&#8217;t we?<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, when I posted the Met &#8220;great moment&#8221; ad on Twitter last night, some folks in LA pointed out that the new LA Philharmonic slogan doesn&#8217;t make a bit of sense, either. &#8220;Passion Forward&#8221; is apparently what they&#8217;re going with?\u00a0<em> Out West Arts <\/em><a title=\"Out West Arts\" href=\"http:\/\/outwestarts.blogspot.com\/2011\/08\/let-them-eat-cake.html\">has a post <\/a>on the subject. From <em>Out West Arts:<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2011\/09\/at-any-moment-a-great-blog-post\/forward\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-738\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-738\" title=\"forward\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/forward.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/forward.jpg 325w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/forward-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It seems to be a riff on &#8220;fashion forward&#8221;, but&#8230;why? One (self-described as &#8220;Black\/Mexican and Gay&#8221;) commenter writes,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brian dear it&#8217;s very simple: Dudamel is Latin, the mucho emotional Latins as we all know, are all about el passion, hence &#8220;passion forward!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If our music director was African-American then it would be &#8220;rhythm forward&#8221; because we all know dems people got dat rhythm thing going.<\/p>\n<p>If our music director was openly gay the line would be &#8220;fabulously forward&#8221; because gays are swishy and say terrible witty things.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and so on and so forth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With a mix of glee and despair, I direct you back to the best worst slogan in classical music: &#8220;<a title=\"Unexpect Yourself blog post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2010\/02\/what_to_expect_when_youre_expecting\/\">Unexpect Yourself<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update, 9\/11: A representative from Rubenstein PR has e mailed to point out that they do both The Met&#8217;s and the Yankees&#8217;s PR, not marketing. I knew that, but was trying to be Hilarious.
