The best one, from a publicist&#8217;s perspective, was this Yo-Yo Ma booking flyer from the mid-70&#8217;s:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"YoYoMaFlyer2.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/YoYoMaFlyer2.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"YoYoMaFlyer1.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/YoYoMaFlyer1.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" \/> <\/p>\n<div>Sure, the pull-quotes are &#8220;Spectacular!&#8221; &#8220;Undeniable Skill!&#8221; &#8220;Prodigious!&#8221; &#8220;Spellbinding&#8221; and &#8220;An Extraordinary Cellist!&#8221;, but they&#8217;re from <i>Novedadas Mexico D.F., Louisville Times, Vancouver Sun, Ottawa Journal <\/i>and the <i>Louisville Courier-Journal. <\/i>There&#8217;s nothing wrong with these publications, of course, but I think it does give hope for artists who don&#8217;t have a quote sheet consisting of <i>The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal <\/i>and <i>The New York Times. <\/i>Everyone&#8217;s quote sheet starts somewhere! <\/p>\n<p>It was decided <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2009\/02\/celebrity-celebrity-match.html\">on this very blog<\/a> that Yo-Yo Ma was more famous than Itzhak Perlman, after all. Also, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2008\/10\/on-classical-music-celebrity-p.html\">he was on <\/a><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2008\/10\/on-classical-music-celebrity-p.html\">The Colbert Report<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Something I like to do is create a peer quote sheet as well, like the blurbs on the back of a book. That way, even if an artist hasn&#8217;t been reviewed by a Paper of Note, there&#8217;s some kind of critical content to a press release or press kit.
