But a little funny, right?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was cruising around the <i>Washington Post <\/i>website the other day and saw this banner ad for life insurance:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"WashPostDeathAd.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/WashPostDeathAd.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"126\" width=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<div>Naturally all I and everyone reads at first is &#8220;IF YOU DIED TODAY,&#8221; because it includes the words &#8220;you&#8221; and &#8220;died&#8221; and is in a bigger font than the rest of the text in the ad. (See what they did there?) My first thought was, &#8220;Well, if I &#8216;died today&#8217; I guess I could stop dieting for that physical in two weeks&#8230;which I probably shouldn&#8217;t be doing anyway because who even cares,&#8221; and, as <i>Life&#8217;s a Pitch<\/i> devotees and clients could probably guess, my second thought was, &#8220;that would be kind of a not funny\/funny marketing campaign for my artists.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DiedToday1.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/DiedToday1.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"84\" width=\"500\" \/><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DiedTodayMatch.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/DiedTodayMatch.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"84\" width=\"500\" \/><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DiedTodaySchoenberg.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/DiedTodaySchoenberg.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"84\" width=\"500\" \/><\/div>\n<div>&#8230;or how about:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DiedTodayPorgy.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/DiedTodayPorgy.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"84\" width=\"500\" \/>Life insurance has death threats! Toilet paper has yellow lab puppies! Online investing sites apparently have creepy talking babies that people seem to like for reasons I don&#8217;t understand!
