{"id":219,"date":"2009-03-20T16:22:53","date_gmt":"2009-03-20T16:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/?p=219"},"modified":"2009-03-20T16:22:53","modified_gmt":"2009-03-20T16:22:53","slug":"president_obama_youtuber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2009\/03\/president_obama_youtuber\/","title":{"rendered":"President Obama: YouTuber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just in case any artists or arts presenters out there were worried about YouTube being too low-brow for them\/their organization, this just in from the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/afp\/article\/ALeqM5jhvOY4aV2-HjBluOVyA2kzPApaPg\">Associated Press<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In recording a video message to the Iranian people marking the<br \/>\nIranian New Year, Nowruz, and distributing it online, Obama seized upon<br \/>\none of the Web tools which he used so effectively during his<br \/>\npresidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;The 3min 35sec video entitled &#8220;A New Year, A New Beginning&#8221; was posted on the White House website at <a href=\"http:\/\/whitehouse.gov\/Nowruz\">whitehouse.gov\/Nowruz<\/a> with captions in Farsi and also on the White House YouTube channel at <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/user\/whitehouse\">youtube.com\/user\/whitehouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It<br \/>\nhad rung up more than 100,000 views on YouTube some 16 hours after its<br \/>\nrelease and generated a stream of more than 1,000 mostly favorable<br \/>\ncomments.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Rasiej, a co-founder of the blog<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/techpresident.com\/\">TechPresident.com<\/a>, which examines politics and technology, said using<br \/>\nthe Internet allowed Obama to deliver his words directly and unfiltered<br \/>\nto the Iranian people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s using the open platform of the<br \/>\nInternet to ensure his message is heard in full and not shortened where<br \/>\nit could be taken out of context or manipulated in a way that doesn&#8217;t<br \/>\nmeet with his intent,&#8221; Rasiej told AFP.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I was about to brag about Hilary recording a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tZhqE0sVfV0\">YouTube Symphony interview via video Skype<\/a>, but the President has totally schooled us.
