{"id":214,"date":"2009-03-16T19:12:24","date_gmt":"2009-03-16T19:12:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/?p=214"},"modified":"2009-03-16T19:12:24","modified_gmt":"2009-03-16T19:12:24","slug":"which_monet_is_covering_this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2009\/03\/which_monet_is_covering_this\/","title":{"rendered":"Which Monet is covering THIS?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was en route to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.33variations.com\/\"><i>33 Variations<\/i><\/a> two Friday nights ago, and was stopped in my tracks by the presence of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/home.asp\">Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> BILLBOARD in TIMES SQUARE:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Met-Museum.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/Met-Museum.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"533\" width=\"400\" \/><\/span>What the deuce? Didn&#8217;t anyone tell The Met that the world economy collapsed and the arts are dying a slow and painful death? How the Pierre Bonnard Late Interiors can they afford a billboard in Times Square?? More power to &#8217;em, I say, but what about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/03\/13\/arts\/design\/13metr.html?hp\">74 recently fired employees<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>The ad appears to be the result of a recent Flickr <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/metmuseum\/sets\/72157613529457517\/\">photo contest<\/a>, which is equally awesome. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking of <i>33 Variations<\/i>, I was dismayed that there were 1. no performances of the Diabelli Variations in the city in conjunction with the production (although incorporating a live pianist throughout the play was very cool) and 2. no advertisements or inserts cross-promoting classical music performances of any kind in the program.
