Since I&#8217;m fast-forwarding all those commercials that advertisers paid lots of money for, I wonder if there will be a movement to produce television commercials in slow-motion with words on the screen so they are most effective while being fast-forwarded. Similarly, do commercial creators now film commercials using similar tones\/filters\/settings as the TV shows during which they will be played? Like in magazines, when often the ad layouts are so similar to the editorial layouts that the pages have to say &#8220;Advertisement&#8221; on top? That way, I *think* <i>The Hills<\/i> has come back on so I press play, but MTV really just wants me to buy Voluminous mascara.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>Two<\/b><br \/>In last week&#8217;s issue of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/articles\/features\/71758\/how-to-succeed-in-anything\">Time Out New York<\/a>, <\/i>page 15 began a list of ways to get ahead in everyday life. Number 2 was &#8220;Invent an Ally&#8221;, which I loved, possibly a bit too much:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"subtitle\">2 INVENT AN ALLY<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When my first<br \/>\nbook was coming out, I wanted a write-up on a website that did not<br \/>\naccept self-write-ups. By the end, it<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t seem as much like self-pimping as an authentic personality<br \/>\ndisorder.&#8221;<em>&#8211;Molly Crabapple<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I misread this the first time, and thought Ms. &#8220;Crabapple&#8221; meant she created her own website where she reviewed other people&#8217;s books, and then gave herself a glowing review on that site. The beverage\/scone comparison is useful, though who can eat anything while drinking those frappu- things?
