{"id":112,"date":"2008-10-20T18:24:11","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T18:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/wp\/?p=112"},"modified":"2008-10-20T18:24:11","modified_gmt":"2008-10-20T18:24:11","slug":"wittywaltzing_party_stravinsky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2008\/10\/wittywaltzing_party_stravinsky\/","title":{"rendered":"Witty-waltzing party stravinsky your mother dances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As previously mentioned, I had the distinct pleasure of hanging with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presentmusic.org\/about_us.artistic_director_bio.php\">Kevin Stalheim<\/a> (among others) in the thriving metropolis of Buffalo, NY <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/2008\/10\/adventurous-nonprogramming.html\">a few weekends ago<\/a>. He gave me his series&#8217;, Present Music&#8217;s, season brochure (pronounced PRESent Music, as in, &#8220;current&#8221; or &#8220;generally around&#8221; music, not PreSENT Music, as in, &#8220;we present music&#8221;), and I thought it was rockin&#8217;. Here is one of the brochure panels (please ignore the embarrassingly dirty scanner):<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PresentMusic1.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/PresentMusic1.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"757\" width=\"500\" \/><\/span>Intriguing images, good concert titles, clear date\/time\/locations, BUT the coolest part, I think, is the total lack of outlined programs. When I first looked at the brochure, I thought the programs were listed for each concert and the words were just jumbled; I then realized that the programs are not, in fact, listed, but that this was a kind of word-association game with the concerts instead! &#8220;Ryan Carter World Premiere&#8230;Innovation&#8230;Fish&#8221;: that makes me want to take a gander at their website, if not call and buy tickets on the spot. Here are two more:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PresentMusic2.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/PresentMusic2.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"582\" width=\"500\" \/><\/span><br \/><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PresentMusic3.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/lifesapitch\/PresentMusic3.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"487\" width=\"500\" \/><\/span> From what Kevin has told me, Present Music concerts are 1. fun 2. all over the map, so this brochure reflects the spirit of the series perfectly. <\/p>\n<p>One of the panels also has a great quote from an audience survey.
