{"id":355,"date":"2010-11-22T11:17:14","date_gmt":"2010-11-22T16:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/wp\/2010\/11\/announcing_eyejazztv_happy_45t\/"},"modified":"2011-04-28T16:32:46","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T20:32:46","slug":"announcing_eyejazztv_happy_45t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/2010\/11\/announcing_eyejazztv_happy_45t.html","title":{"rendered":"Announcing eyeJAZZ.tv &#038; Happy 45th b&#8217;day AACM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>eyeJAZZ.tv, a wave of guerrilla video music-news clips being initiated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jjanews.org\">Jazz Journalists Association<\/a>, has posted its first example &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k_izlo7MNDU&amp;feature=mfu_in_order&amp;list=UL\">my brief production<\/a>&nbsp;from last week&#8217;s 45th birthday concert of the AACM featuring composer-saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell, flutist and AACM chair Nicole Mitchell (no relation) and saxophonist Ari Brown, at Chicago&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcachicago.org\/programs\/event_detail.php?id=507&amp;page=genev\">Museum of Contemporary Art.<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><object width=\"480\" height=\"295\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/k_izlo7MNDU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n&nbsp;To promote awareness of jazz happening around us all the time, the JJA (of which I&#8217;m president) has received a grant from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddcf.org\/Arts\/Program-Initiatives\/Organizational-Transformation\/Mid-Atlantic-Arts-Foundation-JazzNEXT-Program\/\">Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation<\/a>&#8216;s jazzNEXT program, generously supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddcf.org\/Arts\/\">Doris Duke Charitable Foundation<\/a>, to equip and train a cadre of 30 nascent videographers in capturing on-the-scene jazz talk and action for quick distribution through Youtube and other web platforms. Lewis,&nbsp;Amina Claudine Myers,&nbsp;Wadada Leo Smith,&nbsp;Henry Threadgill,&nbsp;&nbsp;Pete Cosey,&nbsp;Thurman Barker&nbsp;&nbsp;Famadou Don Moy\u00c3\u00a9, Steve and Iqua Colson, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, Douglas Ewart, Chico Freeman, Warren Smith, Reggie Nicholson, John Stubblefield, Hamid Drake, Harrison Bankhead, Ed Wilkerson, Ernest Dawkins, Mwata Bowden, Matana Roberts and Mike Reed have emerged as original and influential makers and teachers of new music derived from jazz but unlimited by generic or conceptual boundaries.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The same night the Chicago AACM held its 45th anniversary concert, the New York chapter featured Wadada&#8217;s 22-piece &#8220;Silver Orchestra&#8221; and a duo of keyboardist\/singer Myers with drummer Nicholson. Also in Chicago, Renee Baker conducted a 27-piece ensemble with strings and dancers in &#8220;Brass Epiphany&#8221; &#8212; and I got some cool video of that.
