A &#8220;high-quality, interactive webcast&#8221; of the FMC event is being produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/web.illish.us\/\">web.illish.us<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and you can get a free\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;virtual seat&#8221; from which to watch it\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/futureofmusic.org\/eventrelated\/live-webcast\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nHere&#8217;s are questions I&#8217;ve been asked to consider by the two moderators:<!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\" style=\"margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;\"><p><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\" style=\"margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;\"><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \">a) How, in such a noisy media<br \/>\nenvironment, can artists win the attention of music writers?\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\" style=\"margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;\"><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \"><br \/><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \">b) What&#8217;s the value of music writing<br \/>\nwhen listeners can rapidly access the sounds themselves?<\/span><br \/><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \"><br \/><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\" style=\"margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;\"><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \">c) How is niche music coverage faring<br \/>\nin the age of American Idol? Should it be left to the citizen and fan blogs or<br \/>\nis there a reason for maintaining coverage &#8220;beats&#8221; at trad outlets?<\/span><br \/><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \"><br \/><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\" style=\"margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;\"><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica; \">d) What impact has user-generated<br \/>\nreviews at Amazon, etc. had on criticism? Is there a need for professional<br \/>\narbiters of culture?<\/span><br \/><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span style=\"font-family:\nHelvetica;mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica\">A) As we fret over the crisis in<br \/>\njournalism, it&#8217;s worth asking: Were traditional media really doing such a great<br \/>\njob to being with? What were we not doing well before that new outlets and<br \/>\nsources provide? <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span style=\"font-family:\nHelvetica;mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica\"><o:p>B) Given that the old business model<br \/>\nfor journalism is broken beyond repair, how will we pay for the kind of music<br \/>\njournalism &#8212; be it criticism or reporting on the music industry &#8212; that new<br \/>\nsources (amateur, logarithmic, etc) don&#8217;t consistently provide?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:\nnone;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none\"><span style=\"font-family:\nHelvetica;mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica\"><o:p>C) How has the form changed the<br \/>\nfunction? How has the change in how we access music as listeners\/consumers<br \/>\naffected the job writers and critics perform? Is the tweeted record review<br \/>\nreally useful?
