{"id":220,"date":"2009-07-13T10:29:49","date_gmt":"2009-07-13T14:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/wp\/2009\/07\/more_on_jazz_times\/"},"modified":"2011-04-28T16:33:44","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T20:33:44","slug":"more_on_jazz_times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/2009\/07\/more_on_jazz_times.html","title":{"rendered":"More on Jazz Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madavor.com\/en\/home\/\">Madavor Media<\/a> company director Joan Lynch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/2009\/07\/jazz_mag_revived.html\">confirmed acquisition<\/a> of <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jazztimes.com\">Jazz Times<\/a><\/span>\u00c2\u00a0magazine today, <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">pledging to settle the suspended publication&#8217;s unpaid debts<\/span>, to go for editorial continuity, to maintain its 10-times-a-year print schedule and website, and to keep its two top editors.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;As part of Madavor, I&#8217;m excited to have <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jazz Times<\/span> to work on &#8212; we think it&#8217;s just a great brand,&#8221; said Ms. Lynch by phone from Madavor offices in Quincy, Massachusetts (retained <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jazz Times<\/span> editorial staffers Lee Mergener and Evan Haga will still operate from Silver Spring, MD). Asked if she had concerns about entering the beleaguered music magazine field, she replied, &#8220;We&#8217;re a strong business, we have resources and we understand we&#8217;re sort of bucking the trend. But we believe in print, in the web, and in delivering the best product we can, hoping to keep <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jazz Times<\/span> the publication aficionados want.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nBesides its seven golf magazines, two sports titles (<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">International Figure Skating, <\/span>which Ms. Lynch said has a world-wide circulation of 50,000,<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>and <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Volley Ball<\/span>) and two publications on collectibles (<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Doll Reader<\/span> and <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Teddy Bear and Friends<\/span>), Madavor Media counts the two annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madavor.com\/en\/news\/detail.php?ID=406\">IDEX trade shows<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0for dolls, teddy bears, plush toys and related objects among its assets. As <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jazz Times<\/span> was the producer of an industry-wide convention that eventually was folded into te now defunct annual International Association for Jazz Education conferences, is it possible a jazz trade show is in the offing?<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;I can&#8217;t comment on our future plans,&#8221;
