{"id":203,"date":"2009-06-05T18:26:43","date_gmt":"2009-06-05T22:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/wp\/2009\/06\/jazz_times_crisis_confirmed\/"},"modified":"2011-04-28T16:34:03","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T20:34:03","slug":"jazz_times_crisis_confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/2009\/06\/jazz_times_crisis_confirmed.html","title":{"rendered":"Jazz Times crisis confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An associate editor of JazzTimes &#8220;until a couple of weeks ago when I<br \/>\nwas laid off&#8221; has confirmed that the magazine is in deep trouble. &#8220;There<br \/>\nwas some hope of a new buyer coming to the rescue,&#8221; he writes, &#8220;but as of my last<br \/>\ncontact with the guys it wasn&#8217;t looking good.&#8221; I&#8217;d heard previously that the proposed deal fell through.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully that will still<br \/>\nhappen,&#8221; this source continues, &#8220;but with the loss of JVC and other advertisers it&#8217;s doubtful<br \/>\nthe magazine would be able to survive in its present format.&#8221; Meanwhile, numerous writers and photographers have contacted me with tales of waiting on payments since last March. These are bad signs. A lot of jazz people are, like my correspondent, hopeful. We&#8217;d like Jazz Times to continue, to prosper and flower.
