Fellows in this 85th year of the program include seven who are jazz-related: composer-pianists\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billychilds.com\/\">Billy Childs<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(winner of two Grammies in 2006),\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryancohan.com\/biography.html\">Ryan Cohan<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(Chicago-based, in trumpeter Orbert Davis&#8217;s ensembles) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chuckowen.com\/\">Chuck Owen<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(prof of jazz studies at University of South Florida, Tampa), trumpeter-composer-educator\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/music.calarts.edu\/~wls\/\">Wadada Leo Smith<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(of the<a href=\"http:\/\/aacmchicago.org\/ishmael-wadada-leo-smith\"> AACM<\/a>, a professor at <a href=\"http:\/\/music.calarts.edu\/\">California Institute of the Arts<\/a>), professors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jerryjazzmusician.com\/mainHTML.cfm?page=brothers.html\">Thomas Brothers<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(a Louis Armstrong expert at Duke University) and <a href=\"http:\/\/aaas.fas.harvard.edu\/faculty\/ingrid_monson\/index.html\">Ingrid Monson<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(Harvard&#8217;s Quincy Jones Professor of African-American music) and choreographer J<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbushwomen.org\/jz_bio.html\">awole Willa Jo Zollar<\/a> of the dance troupe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbushwomen.org\/\">Urban Bush Women<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>No information about the no-strings financial awards connected to the fellowship is available, but the one-time grants last year were reported to be in the neighborhood of $35,000.
