The portraits show the intensity, thoughtfulness, intimacy and drama of some of the music (in particular, I was struck by all that in Detroit-raised, now NYC-based pianist <strong>Craig Taborn<\/strong>&#8216;s first solo concert in a long while), but don&#8217;t focus on how Frank Lloyd Wright&#8217;s Robie House itself became a virtual sound speaker (that thought\u00c2\u00a0thanks to another photo-journo, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/jazzbeyondjazz\/2014\/09\/chicago-jazz-fest-highlights-a-la-pokempner-vision.html\">Marc PoKempner<\/a>); how Trinidadian-born trumpeter <strong>Etienne Charles<\/strong>&#8216; set stirred up\u00c2\u00a0a hip Caribbean dance party down front; that the<strong> Fat Babies<\/strong>&#8216; traditional repertoire also drew foxtrotters to the temporary dance floor, how flutist Nicole Mitchell (now living in California, she claims Chicago is &#8220;still home&#8221;), vibist Jason Adaseiwicz, bassist Josh Abrams and drummer Frank Rosaly as <strong>Ice Crystal<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0worked so well <em>together. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Add in this info: the fest events were free (although donations of $5 were encouraged and welcomed) thanks to lead and founding sponsorship from\u00c2\u00a0the University of Chicago\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Office of Civic Engagement and\u00c2\u00a0support\u00c2\u00a0from the non-profit Hyde Park Jazz Society, while being incorporated as a non-profit &#8212; Hyde Park Jazz Festival &#8212; itself.
