Allen&#8217;s appointment is even more chilling than Chertoff&#8217;s nomination, Ireland believes,<br \/>\nbecause it signals &#8220;the aggressive nature across the board&#8221; of a second Bush regime. Ireland<br \/>\nspeaks of the billions of dollars in faith-based initiatives as, in effect, a &#8220;religious tax&#8221; and sees <A\nclass=inline href=\"http:\/\/direland.typepad.com\/direland\/2005\/01\/claude_allen_bu.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Allen&#8217;s installation<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> as part of a<br \/>\nwould-be &#8220;Bush theocracy.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Unfortunately, the Democracy Now! <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/cassel06112003.html\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>link<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> to Cassel&#8217;s article of a year ago in Counterpunch,<br \/>\n&#8220;Michael Chertoff: Ashcroft&#8217;s Top Gremlin,&#8221; is dead. (Maybe somebody at Counterpunch will<br \/>\nrevive it, please?)
