He ushered in the New Year from<br \/>\nTimes Square with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Today <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2005\/US\/01\/03\/powell\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>he&#8217;s off to survey the tsunami damage<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> with Florida Governor<br \/>\nJeb Bush. On top of that,&nbsp;<A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/ALLPOLITICS\/01\/02\/powell.future.ap\/index.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>he&#8217;s leaving politics<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, but he&#8217;s not<br \/>\nretiring. Powell says he expects to serve the public &#8220;in some private way,&#8221; possibly as an educator.<br \/>\n&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if working in the field of mentoring or education or something like that<br \/>\ndoes not appear on my calendar,&#8221; he told the Associated Press. The man seems dazed and<br \/>\nconfused, incapable of saying what he means.
