Not having seen any<br \/>\nsince the first one ran on Nov. 1 in the Metro section of the print edition, I wondered whether my<br \/>\n<A class=inline href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20041101.shtml#90454\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>report<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> had been wrong.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>This morning I asked Jonathan Landman, the cultural editor of the Times, in a gmail message:<br \/>\n&#8220;Can readers expect to see more overnights in the future? Are you phasing them in slowly or have<br \/>\nyou dropped the idea (and if so, why)?&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>He replied: &#8220;You were right, though a tad premature. We hope to start these on a regular<br \/>\nbasis in a couple of months. until then, we&#8217;ll do it when the occasion warrants &#8212; probably a bit<br \/>\nmore often than we&#8217;ve done it in the past, but not on any fixed schedule.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Once the policy goes full bore, will overnights run in the arts section, where readers are<br \/>\naccustomed to looking for reviews? Or will they continue to run in the Metro section of the print<br \/>\nedition? We didn&#8217;t get into that. My guess is Metro, due to its later production deadlines, unless<br \/>\nthe paper rejiggers its printing schedule.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Meantime, this morning&#8217;s front page had a surprise for classical musicians who&#8217;ve been feeling<br \/>\nas desperate about their base as Democrats about theirs. When was the last time the paper gave<br \/>\nfront-page treatment to a non-news feature profile about a <A class=inline\nhref=\"href=http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/08\/arts\/music\/08oper.html?oref=login\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>fill-in opera singer?<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> Not in recent<br \/>\nmemory.
