Making the case for globalization, he points to the &#8220;spectacular decline in poverty in East and South Asia&#8221; as evidence that the world&#8217;s poorer nations are leading a global economic surge. How so? Well, of roughly 472 million people living on less than $1 a day in 1990, about 200 million have graduated to less than extreme poverty (perhaps $2 a day).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accordingly, when life on $3 a day (or, miracle of miracles, $4 a day) becomes a reality for hundreds of millions in the distant future, we can expect a column headlined &#8220;Superspectacular News About Poverty.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meantime, his colleague Nicholas &#8220;On-the-One-Hand-on-the-Other-Hand&#8221; Kristof offers more of his adventures in equivocation with <i>his<\/i> latest column, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/27\/opinion\/27kristof.html?hp\" target=\"new&quot;\" class=\"inline\"><b><font color=\"#003399\">&#8220;Saving the Iraqi Children.&#8221;<\/font><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And by the way, don&#8217;t miss <a class=\"inline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/27\/nyregion\/27terror.html?hp&amp;ex=1101618000&amp;en=ad4\nd957fe514e3aa&amp;ei=5094&amp;partner=homepage\" target=\"new&quot;\"><b><font color=\"#003399\">Ashcroft&#8217;s house of cards<\/font><\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By JAN HERMAN With his latest column, &#8220;Good News About Poverty,&#8221; David &#8220;Bobo&#8221; Brooks continues his wayward adventures in idiocy.
