May it never. Others are<br \/>\nsaying that, too. Straight Upper Joan Daniels, a regular reader, writes:<\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE>I have come to the conclusion that the &#8220;majority&#8221; of Americans are simply<br \/>\nmorons and nothing now will ever convince me otherwise. I&#8217;m amazed by the people in the streets<br \/>\ncheering for Bush &#8212; people who will be unemployed and disinfranchised over the next 4 years<br \/>\nbecause they&#8217;ve reelected him.<br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>There&#8217;s now nothing holding back the &#8220;regime.&#8221; They&#8217;re free to do whatever they wish and<br \/>\nthey wish to do a lot and it&#8217;s all very bad. And I don&#8217;t want to hear any talk of &#8220;binding wounds&#8221;<br \/>\nand &#8220;reuniting Americans&#8221; either.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The people who voted for him perhaps deserve to have him as their president, but I didn&#8217;t do<br \/>\nanything to deserve him and I&#8217;m not endorsing him. How could people vote for him?<\/P><br \/>\n<P>And what&#8217;s with all this hypocritical talk about moral values? Is what we are doing (and will<br \/>\ncontinue to do!) in Iraq moral? What is the rest of the world going to think of Americans now that<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ve reelected those monsters???<\/P><br \/>\n<P>I commented to a friend before the election that I&#8217;d like to tell myself, if Bush won, it wouldn&#8217;t<br \/>\nbe the end of the world. But the fact of the matter is, I fear it may be exactly that. This country<br \/>\nmay never recover, ever, from 8 years of George W. Bush, God&#8217;s chosen President.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>It shouldn&#8217;t have been a close election, it should&#8217;ve been a landslide for John Kerry. The<br \/>\nAmerican people have spoken and informed the world they are complete<br \/>\nidiots.<\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Her comments jibe with <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/postclassic\/archives20041101.shtml#90639\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>these<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> and <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/postclassic\/archives20041101.shtml#90716\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>these<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> and <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/postclassic\/archives20041101.shtml#90593\" target='new\"'\n<b><STRONG><FONT color=#003399>these<\/B><\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A>, all by Kyle<br \/>\n(&#8220;No Time to Retreat&#8221;) Gann, who said early and well what had to be said, and <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/id\/2109218\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>these<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> by Jane (&#8220;The unteachable ignorance of the red<br \/>\nstates&#8221;) Smiley, who sounds remarkably like someone separated at birth from Gann.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>And now comes sorry news that our far-seeing standard-bearer of bad tidings, Paul (&#8220;No<br \/>\nSurrender&#8221;) Krugman, is taking a leave from his column until sometime in January to complete an<br \/>\neconomic textbook. His departing words bring further warning of <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/05\/opinion\/05krugman.html?hp\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>nasty times ahead:<\/FONT><\/B><\/A><\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE>I don&#8217;t hope for more and worse scandals and failures during Mr. Bush&#8217;s<br \/>\nsecond term, but I do expect them. The resurgence of Al Qaeda, the debacle in Iraq, the explosion<br \/>\nof the budget deficit and the failure to create jobs weren&#8217;t things that just happened to occur on<br \/>\nMr. Bush&#8217;s watch. They were the consequences of bad policies made by people who let ideology<br \/>\ntrump reality. Those people still have Mr. Bush&#8217;s ear, and his election victory will only give them<br \/>\nthe confidence to make even bigger mistakes.<\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/B><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>If the dust does settle, it&#8217;s likely to be our own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dust from the election of the chief ignoramus has not settled.
