It&#8217;s being attributed to Garrison Keillor.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The attribution could well be apocryphal. (Remember Kurt Vonnegut&#8217;s <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.angelfire.com\/hi\/falconsociety\/pages\/Vonnegut.html\"\ntarget='new\"<b'><STRONG><FONT color=#003399>bogus&nbsp;commencement<br \/>\naddress<\/B><\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A> at MIT&nbsp;a few years ago? Here&#8217;s the <A\nclass=inline href=\"http:\/\/www.wesselenyi.com\/Mary.htm\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>story behind that<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>.) But I can see the Keillor connection<br \/>\nbecause whoever wrote the joke has improved upon a version of it submitted four years ago to &#8220;A<br \/>\nPrairie Home Companion&#8217;s&#8221; <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/prairiehome.publicradio.org\/features\/hodgepodge\/20000401_jokeshow\/cute.htm\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Fifth Annual Joke Show<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> (scroll<br \/>\ndown) by Rick Higgs, of New Palestine, Indiana.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Here&#8217;s the joke ascribed to Keillor:<\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><B>The Balloonist<\/B><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a<br \/>\nman in a boat below. She shouted to him, &#8220;Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I<br \/>\nwould meet him an hour ago, but I don&#8217;t know where I am.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, &#8220;You&#8217;re in a hot air balloon approximately<br \/>\n30 feet above a ground elevation of 346 feet above sea level. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes<br \/>\nnorth latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>She rolled her eyes and said, &#8220;You must be a Democrat.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;I am,&#8221; replied the man. &#8220;How did you know?&#8221; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;Well,&#8221; answered the balloonist, &#8220;Everything you told me is technically correct but I have no<br \/>\nidea what to make of your information and I&#8217;m still lost. Frankly, you&#8217;ve not been much help to<br \/>\nme.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The man smiled and responded, &#8220;You must be a Republican.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;I am,&#8221; replied the balloonist. &#8220;How did you know?&#8221; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;Well,&#8221; said the man, &#8220;you don&#8217;t know where you are or where you&#8217;re going. You&#8217;ve risen to<br \/>\nwhere you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how<br \/>\nto keep and you expect me to solve your problem. You&#8217;re in exactly the same position you were<br \/>\nin before we met, but somehow, now it&#8217;s my fault.&#8221;<\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Exactly. And&nbsp;perfect for this Election Day.
