(Not to be confused<br \/>\nwith Robert Crumb&#8217;s grammatically correct&nbsp;<A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/222603742X\/qid=1095946966\/sr=1-10\/ref\n=sr_1_10\/104-7952028-8954301?v=glance&#038;s=books\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Belle d&#8217;un jour<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>.) But creeper is a one-time shot. Belle was<br \/>\nthere for us every day of the year. Sad, sad that <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20040901.shtml#87218\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>she&#8217;s gone<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>. (The Pentagon must<br \/>\nhave been reading her. It&#8217;s taken the romance out of joining up. See the <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A39746-2004Sep21.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>clamp down<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> on prostitution.) <A\nclass=inline href=\"http:\/\/www.popfactor.com\/tmftml\/\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Also gone<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>: The Minor Fall, the Major Lift. Or was it The<br \/>\nMinor Lift, the Major Fall. Uh, The Major Fall, the Minor Lift? I&#8217;ve forgotten already. Whatever,<br \/>\nmore sadness.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/media.guardian.co.uk\/mediaguardian\/story\/0,7558,1308104,00.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Yeah, yeah<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, the Guardian in<br \/>\nLondon and the Washington Post now have &#8220;Best Blog&#8221; competitions. &#8220;There&#8217;s hardly a major<br \/>\nnewspaper &#8212; from the Observer and the Evening Standard [also in London] to the New York<br \/>\nTimes and USA Today &#8212; that hasn&#8217;t published at least one lengthy feature on the growing<br \/>\ninfluence of blogs,&#8221; Paul Carr writes in an article on &#8220;Why bloggers are good for profits.&#8221; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Professors love blogging, too. It&#8217;s caught on in academe, the Chicago Tribune reports in a<br \/>\nrecent article that rolled out the usual suspects: Law professors <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/volokh.com\/\" target='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Eugene<br \/>\nVolokh<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, <A class=inline href=\"http:\/\/instapundit.com\/\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Glenn Reynolds<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/lessig.org\/\" target='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Lawrence<br \/>\nLessig<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, and some others (<A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/philosophenweg.blogspot.com\/\" target='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>Russell<br \/>\nArben Fox<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/SocSci\/tburke1\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Tim Burke<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.j-bradford-delong.net\/movable_type\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Brad DeLong<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>).&nbsp;The Trib hasn&#8217;t put that article online,<br \/>\nso no link. Funny, huh? And we&#8217;ve heard The Wall Street Journal loves bloggers, too (some more<br \/>\nthan others). Yeah, yeah, blogging has reached sea level.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><B>Postscript:<\/B> Some have claimed the mysterious Belle is Martin Amis in drag.
