Dummy Boy<br \/>\ninsists, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/ALLPOLITICS\/09\/18\/bush.iraq\/index.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;I&#8217;m pleased with the<br \/>\nprogress&#8221;<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;in Iraq. That&#8217;s what he told a New Hampshire newspaper in<br \/>\nan interview published Saturday, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/09\/19\/international\/middleeast\/19iraq.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>the same day a suicide car bomb killed 19 people and<br \/>\nwounded 67<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, when it &#8220;plowed into a crowd of men seeking jobs with the<br \/>\nIraqi National Guard&#8221; in Kirkuk.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Never mind that it was the third bomb of the week &#8220;aimed at Iraqi security forces.&#8221; Never<br \/>\nmind that &#8220;attacks on state officials have become common.&#8221; Never mind <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/WORLD\/meast\/09\/19\/iraq.main\/index.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>the kidnappings<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;of<br \/>\nforeigners. Never mind the sabotaged oil pipelines. Never mind the campaign &#8220;to cripple the<br \/>\ninstitutions of the interim government.&#8221; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Never mind that insurgents control Falluja. Never mind that &#8220;<A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/09\/19\/international\/middleeast\/19strategy.html?hp\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>American forces have lost<br \/>\ncontro<\/FONT>l<\/B><\/A> over at least one provincial capital, Ramadi, and have only a tenuous<br \/>\ngrip over a second, Baquba,&#8221;&nbsp;another provincial capital near&nbsp;Baghdad. Never mind<br \/>\nthat &#8220;other large cities in the region, like Samarra, are largely in the hands of insurgents.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Never mind that &#8220;polls show <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/iraq\/la-fg-voices19sep19,1,4263642.story?coll=l\na-home-headlines\" target='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>increasing anti-U.S.<br \/>\nsentiment<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> and a growing sense that American forces should get out and leave<br \/>\nthings to the Iraqis.&#8221; Especially never mind the National Intelligence Estimate that says civil war<br \/>\ncould erupt down the road.
