Literary<br \/>\npolymath Richard Kostelanetz writes that Allen&#8217;s ground-breaking <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0520209532\/qid=1095551803\/sr=1-1\/ref=\nsr_1_1\/104-7952028-8954301?v=glance&#038;s=books\" target='new\"'><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399>&#8220;The New American Poetry: 1945-1960,&#8221;<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> was &#8220;one of the<br \/>\nfew anthologies that collected disparate materials into a persuasively coherent presentation,<br \/>\nmaking visible what was previously invisible, creating taste instead of sweeping up enthusiasms<br \/>\npromoted by others, which is what most lesser anthologies do.&#8221; Amen to that.
