The San Diego Union-Tribune has a story headlined “Bloggers hoping to become fabulously wealthy may
\nhave a long wait.”<\/FONT> <\/B><\/A>Hell, how about just plain wealthy?<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> I posted this
\na month ago: “A pal of mine who writes for CounterPunch<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> complains that the Web site doesn’t pay
\nanything. Face it, pal, about a million other sites don’t pay anything either.”<\/P>
\n

Think the AP reporter got the news from Straight Up? Very doubtful, because, as was
\nalso mentioned: “If you haven’t heard that before, you haven’t been listening. … Making a living
\non the Internet as an artist or as a critic won’t happen for a long, long time.”<\/P>
\n

And yet … and yet … Doug McLennan, the publisher and editor in chief of ArtsJournal, has
\ndefied the odds. Today is ArtsJournal’s 5th Birthday<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>.
