The press increasingly portrayed him as <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse has-text-align-center\"><strong>arrogant, disdainful, indignant, angry, snide, condescending, petulant, contemptuous, truculent, evasive, hyperaggressive, despotic, bullying, an enfant terrible of the tech industry, <br>and a robber baron.<\/strong><\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>This public relations crisis culminated with the Justice Department\u2019s antitrust suit against Microsoft, which began in 1998 and continued for years. Gates\u2019s videotaped deposition from the trial remains a masterclass in how not to behave in a deposition: slouched and pouty, he debated the definition of words like \u201cwe\u201d and pretended not to understand simple questions. He was so obnoxious that when the Justice Department lawyers played excerpts in court, the judge laughed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I hope Gates is no longer that kind of creep . . . or any kind of creep. My guess is that he&#8217;s a reformed creep. Yes, it&#8217;s a low bar. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u00b0 \u00b0 \u00b0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POSTSCRIPT:<\/strong> <strong>June 11 \u2014<\/strong> <strong>The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/06\/10\/bill-gates-testifies-before-house-panel-investigating-epstein\/\">reports<\/a> that Gates testified that he knew nothing of Epstein\u2019s crimes. In Gates&#8217;s opening statement, obtained by the newspaper, he said: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cI never witnessed nor had any indication that Epstein was engaged in ongoing criminal conduct. I never went to his island, his ranch, or his Florida home. I have never victimized anyone.
