Amistad Slave Rebellion Retold in New Graphic Novel <\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"Before Black History Month<\/a> runs out, let’s note that David Lester has a new graphic novel in the works, THE BLACK SCHOONER<\/em>. “It tells the true story of the 1839 uprising aboard the Amistad,” Lester says, and is one of a “growing number of titles depicting history from below<\/em>.” Co-written with Marcus Rediker, the book is to be released by Beacon Press on June 9 \u2014 not in time for the month-long observance, but you can<\/em> get a visual taste of the tale now. It’s potent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
