But his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/stage\/2025\/nov\/29\/tom-stoppard-playwright-of-dazzling-wit-and-playful-erudition-dies-aged-88\">death yesterday<\/a> at the age of 88 secured one more inglorious miss for the Nobel committee. Does it matter? Not really.
