The other day the liberal<br \/>\ncolumnist Nicholas Kristof surprised himself by&nbsp;<A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/05\/22\/opinion\/22KRIS.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;Sticking Up for<br \/>\nRumsfeld.&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> He wrote that demands for Rummy boy&#8217;s resignation<br \/>\nstruck him as &#8220;unfair and premature,&#8221; even though he has &#8220;presided over the most foolish conflict<br \/>\nsince the War of Jenkins&#8217; Ear in the 18th century.&#8221; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>(Don&#8217;t remember <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.georgiaencyclopedia.org\/nge\/Article.jsp?id=h-807\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>that war<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>? It pitted<br \/>\nEngland against Spain over territorial claims in the southern colonies and got its name from<br \/>\nRobert Jenkins, the master of the British ship Rebecca, who claimed his ear had been cut off by<br \/>\nSpanish guards. The carefully preserved ear was shown in the British Parliament and became a<br \/>\nrallying point for anti-Spanish propagandists.) <\/P><br \/>\n<P>At any rate, the online liberal advocacy group <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.moveon.org\/front\/\" target='new\"'><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>moveon.org<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> not only wants Rummy boy fired. It has<br \/>\nwritten a script for a TV ad promoting that point of view and is asking the public to <A\nclass=inline href=\"https:\/\/www.moveon.org\/hooded\/\" target='new\"'><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>help put the ad on the air<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>. Here&#8217;s the script:<\/P><br \/>\n<P><I>[Video] <\/P><br \/>\n<P>THE CAMERA IS MOVING AROUND THE BASE AND UP THE SIDE OF THE<br \/>\nSTATUE OF LIBERTY. WE SEE THAT THE STATUE HAS A HOOD OVER ITS HEAD.<br \/>\nWE THEN SEE A PICTURE OF DONALD RUMSFELD AND PRESIDENT BUSH. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>[Audio: Announcer Voice-Over] <\/P><br \/>\n<P>They said we were going to Iraq to bring American values: democracy, liberty, justice. But<br \/>\nsomething has gone terribly wrong. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>It&#8217;s been reported that Donald Rumsfeld initiated a plan that encouraged the physical coercion<br \/>\nand sexual humiliation of prisoners, violations of international law. Rumsfeld has placed the men<br \/>\nunder his command in even more danger. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Why hasn&#8217;t George Bush fired this man?<\/I><\/P><br \/>\n<P>You remember moveon.org&#8217;s <A class=inline href=\"http:\/\/www.bushin30seconds.org\/\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>Bush in 30<br \/>\nseconds<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> political campaign ad contest, doncha? And the runner-up, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.bushin30seconds.org\/view\/06_small.shtml\" target='new\"'><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>&#8220;What are we teaching our children?&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;And the<br \/>\nfunniest ad, <A class=inline href=\"http:\/\/www.bushin30seconds.org\/view\/1024_small.shtml\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;If Parents Acted Like<br \/>\nBush&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>? And the best animated ad, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.bushin30seconds.org\/view\/2232_small.shtml\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;What I Been Up To<br \/>\n&#8230;&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>? And the best youth ad, <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.bushin30seconds.org\/view\/2472_small.shtml\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;Bring It On&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>?<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<P>If you don&#8217;t, just click the links.
