As an<br \/>\nexample, he said&nbsp;[Colin] Powell&#8217;s recent statement that the United States would pull its<br \/>\nforces out if asked after June 30 was at odds with Mr. Bush&#8217;s statement that the United States<br \/>\nwould persevere and not allow itself to be driven from Iraq. &#8220;It&#8217;s a complete contradiction,&#8221; the<br \/>\ndiplomat said.<\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P>We&#8217;re also glad somebody noticed Mr. Nice Guy&#8217;s shortcomings <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/05\/23\/books\/review\/23KINSLEY.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>as an author<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> and<br \/>\n<A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/books\/review\/2004\/05\/25\/brooks\/index_np.html\"><B><EM><FON\nT color=#003399>as a columnist<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>. Ever since reading his breakout<br \/>\nbook <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0684853787\/qid=1085590178\/sr=2-1\/ref=sr_2\n_1\/102-0994029-4919306\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;Bobos in<br \/>\nParadise,&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> which felt like a padded magazine article, we&#8217;ve had our<br \/>\ndoubts about him.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Back in October we put it gently when we said he was <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20031001.shtml#57597\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;still trying to find his<br \/>\nrhythm&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;as a columnist.
