Luke Harding, a<br \/>\nGuardian reporter in Baghdad, puts the focus today on the <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/international\/story\/0,3604,1214671,00.html\"><B><EM><FON\nT color=#003399>torture and rape of Iraqi women prisoners<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>. Iraqi<br \/>\nwomen needn&#8217;t have been incarcerated to come in for abuse, either. American soldiers on the<br \/>\nstreet&nbsp;apparently feel they have a license to treat them like trash.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Harding quotes Huda Shaker describing her humiliation at a checkpoint on the outskirts of<br \/>\nthe city, when one soldier pointed his gun at her and demanded to search her handbag. &#8220;He<br \/>\npointed the laser sight directly in the middle of my chest,&#8221;&nbsp;she said.&nbsp;&#8220;Then he pointed<br \/>\nto his penis. He told me, &#8216;Come here, bitch, I&#8217;m going to fuck you.'&#8221; Professor Shaker, Harding<br \/>\ninforms us, is a political scientist at Baghdad University.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Astounding as that is, can we expect anything else when American leaders at the top of the<br \/>\nchain of command, beginning with the nincompoop in the White House, pay nothing more than lip<br \/>\nservice to morality? Rummy boy says U.S. interrogation methods are <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;u=\/ap\/20040512\/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe\/us_prisone\nr_abuse_40\" target='new\"'><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>just<br \/>\nfine<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>.
