So said I on Monday. He read the item and&nbsp;on Tuesday&nbsp;began posting<br \/>\nagain. This time&nbsp;he&#8217;s&nbsp;calling his posts&nbsp;<A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.weisblott.com\/\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>radio<br \/>\nweisblogg<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, &#8220;news and commentary about the evolution of AM\/FM<br \/>\netc.&#8221; Have a look while it lasts. You&#8217;ll see what I meant. &#8230; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Burlington Free Press, in Vermont, was the first daily newspaper I worked at (as a<br \/>\nfeature writer). They even put me to work writing the occasional editorial. This item,&nbsp;<A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.sevendaysvt.com\/insidetrack\/\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;Banned in<br \/>\nBurlington&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> (via Poynter), would have caught my attention anyway.<br \/>\nBut it&#8217;s particularly lousy news for someone who&nbsp;was proud to&nbsp;work there once<br \/>\nupon a time. &#8230;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>This op-ed piece also grabbed my eye: <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgifile=\/chronicle\/archive\/2004\/02\/22\/EDG8J4F15M\n1.DTL\"><B>&#8220;<EM><FONT color=#003399>Improve the CIA? Better to abolish<br \/>\nit.&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> It&#8217;s from February in the San Francisco Chronicle, but very timely<br \/>\nin view of George Tenet&#8217;s testimony earlier this week before the 9\/11 commission. And it&#8217;s by the<br \/>\nhistorian Chalmers Johnson, the same guy who wrote with chilling prescience in <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0805075593\/qid=1081802206\/sr=2-1\/ref=sr_2\n_1\/103-9140836-8675042\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;Blowback: The Costs and<br \/>\nConsequences of American Empire,&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/A><\/B> a year before the 9\/11<br \/>\nattacks:<\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE>Terrorism by definition strikes at the innocent in order to draw attention to<br \/>\nthe sins of the invulnerable. The innocent of the twenty-first century are going to harvest<br \/>\nunexpected blowback disasters from the imperialist escapades of recent decades. Although most<br \/>\nAmericans may be largely ignorant of what was, and still is, being done in their names, all are<br \/>\nlikely to pay a steep price &#8212; individually and collectively &#8212; for their nation&#8217;s continued efforts to<br \/>\ndominate the global scene. Before the damage of heedless triumphalist acts and the triumphalist<br \/>\nrhetoric and propaganda that goes with them becomes irreversible, it is important to open a new<br \/>\ndiscussion of our global role &#8230;<\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P>Has the damage become irreversible?
