Jason Keyser, the AP reporter who filed the <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.zwire.com\/site\/news.cfm?BRD=1994&#038;dept_id=226369&#038;newsid=11336844&#038;P\nAG=461&#038;rfi=9\"><STRONG><EM><FONT color=#003399>news<br \/>\nstory<\/FONT><\/EM><\/STRONG><\/A> from Falluja that U.S. troops&nbsp;challenged<br \/>\ninsurgents to&nbsp;come out and fight by blasting rock music at them, identified <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.acdcrocks.com\/\"><STRONG><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>AC\/DC<\/FONT><\/EM><\/STRONG><\/A> and <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.jimi-hendrix.com\/jimihendrix.html\"><STRONG><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Jimi<br \/>\nHendrix<\/FONT><\/EM><\/STRONG><\/A>&nbsp;as<STRONG><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399> <\/FONT><\/EM><\/STRONG>the artists whose music they used.&nbsp; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>That at least shows excellent taste and probably that the troops got a kick out of the music<br \/>\nthemselves, which they wouldn&#8217;t have got from the<A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20040401.shtml#76152\"><EM><STRONG><\nFONT color=#003399> rappers<\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/EM><\/A>&nbsp;I guessed at.<br \/>\nTactically, though, it makes you wonder why they didn&#8217;t blast some really lousy beats.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Keyser also points out that American popular music has been weaponized before &#8212;&nbsp;&#8220;to<br \/>\nhelp flush out&#8221; Manuel Noriega after the December 1989 invasion of Panama, and in 1993 when<br \/>\nthe FBI &#8220;blared progressively more irritating tunes&#8221;&nbsp;at the Branch Davidians during&nbsp;a<br \/>\nstandoff&nbsp;in Waco, Texas.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was &#8217;60s and &#8217;70s hard rock.
