These drawings move across centuries, from the Middle Ages to our blighted times with death always present in many disguises, as are decay and rebirth in an unflinching rawness that gives no comfort. Nothing is omitted. You will find the sexual inscribed like watermarks of passion and anguish. The demonic appears in equal measure with the angelic. But most of all, not unlike cave drawings of prehistoric times, they are an existential record of a particular creature, Bellaart by name. (Just published.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
