In response to yesterday’s item<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, a reader writes: “I’m a Hubble man,
\ntoo. I noticed that funding for maintenance of the space telescope was eliminated after the
\npresident’s bullshit Mars project announcement, another coincidental bait-and-switch. There is a
\nwormhole and his name is Bush.”<\/P>
\n

This comes as no surprise to many in the scientific community. As reported even by Bush-friendly Fox News<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>:
\n“President Bush’s administration distorts scientific findings and seeks to manipulate experts’ advice
\nto avoid information that runs counter to its political beliefs, a private organization of scientists
\nasserted on Wednesday. <\/P>
\n

“The Union
\nof Concerned Scientists<\/FONT><\/EM> <\/B><\/A>contended in a report that ‘the scope and
\nscale of the manipulation, suppression and misrepresentation of science by the Bush
\nadministration is unprecedented.'” <\/P>
\n

As reported in the Chicago
\nTribune<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, “top scientists and environmentalists” backed the report,
\nwhich said “the administration had suppressed research on global warming, air quality, sexual
\nhealth, cancer and other issues.”<\/P>
\n

And in case you didn’t read that, as reported in The New York Times<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, the group
\ncomprises “more than 60 influential scientists, including 20 Nobel laureates” who maintain that
\nBush & Company’s systematic distortion of scientific fact served “policy goals on the
\nenvironment, health, biomedical research and nuclear weaponry at home and abroad.”<\/P>
\n

It’s just Standard Operating Procedure<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> for the White
\nHouse wormhole<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>: According to the report, “the
\nadministration also allowed industries with conflicts of interest to influence technical advisory
\ncommittees, disbanded for political reasons one panel on arms control and subjected other
\nprospective members of scientific panels to political litmus tests.”<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
