Whether the term is <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/blood%20money\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>defined<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> as 1) &#8220;compensation paid to the family of a<br \/>\nmurdered person,&#8221; or as 2) &#8220;reward for information about a murder,&#8221; or as 3) money &#8220;paid to a<br \/>\nhired murderer,&#8221; I&#8217;d say it applies in all three degrees. But that&#8217;s only a secondhand guess. To<br \/>\nknow firsthand, I would have to pay to see the flick. That I won&#8217;t do. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Whatever genre&nbsp;&#8220;Passion&#8221; is &#8212; whether it&#8217;s <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/movies2.nytimes.com\/2004\/02\/25\/movies\/25SCOT.html\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>a slasher film, a horror movie, or a spinoff of a Homer Simpson<br \/>\nfantasy<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, or maybe a snuff trip more accurately titled <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/id\/2096025\/\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;The Jesus<br \/>\nChainsaw Massacre&#8221;<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;&#8212; I leave to <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/film\/titles\/passionofthechrist\/\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>the critics who&#8217;ve seen it<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> to define, including whether<br \/>\nit&#8217;s purposely anti-Semitic. Something I do know, without seeing Gibson&#8217;s flick, is that it&#8217;s one<br \/>\nmore signal of a perverse cultural moment. Add it to our Maximum (&#8220;I&#8217;m a War<br \/>\nPresident&#8221;)&nbsp;Leader&#8217;s call for a <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/nation\/la-na-bush25feb25,1,4778702.story?coll\n=la-home-headlines\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>Constitutional amendment to ban gay<br \/>\nmarriage<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> and Der (&#8220;No Two Ways About It&#8221;) Gropenfuhrer&#8217;s <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/world\/americas\/3508969.stm\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>order to halt<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> gay marriages in San Francisco, and<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ve got a three-fer.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is it safe to say that anyone who buys a ticket to &#8220;The Passion of the Christ&#8221; is paying Mel Gibson blood money?
