Somebody&#8217;s not minding<br \/>\nthe store.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>What&#8217;s wrong in this sentence? &#8220;She is equally ferocious when she expresses her disgust with<br \/>\nconsolidated radio empires and the ludicrosities of the F.C.C itself.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The noun, as far as I know, is ludicrousness. It&#8217;s not a word that comes rippingly off the<br \/>\ntongue and is better avoided. But <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/download.php\/187\/ludicrositysound.wav\"><B><EM><F\nONT color=#003399>ludicrosity<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>? I don&#8217;t find it in my Webster&#8217;s. I do<br \/>\nfind it in the online slang dictionary <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=urbandictionary.com\"><B><EM><FON\nT color=#003399>urbandictionary.com<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>, which defines the word<br \/>\nas:<\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE>1. A descritpive [sic] term used to describe the state of a person, place, thing<br \/>\nor event of a particularly ludicrous nature.<br \/>\n<P><I>&#8220;Nas and Jay-Z in a gay prono&nbsp;[sic]&nbsp;together &#8230; what kind of ludicrosity is<br \/>\nthis?!?!&#8221;<\/I><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>I&#8217;ll grant <I>ludicrosity<\/I> its place in that context if I must. But it&#8217;s not the sort of<br \/>\nneologism that sticks &#8212; and in a Times review it&#8217;s, shall we say, way misplaced.&nbsp;A rap<br \/>\nreference in a critique of a <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/02\/29\/books\/review\/29SICHAT.html\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>book about pirate radio<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>? How hip!&nbsp;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>If being hip was intended, how to explain this from the same critique? &#8220;She writes in a<br \/>\nstraightforward enough magazine style, but veers between entertaining overdisclosure and a<br \/>\nseeming fear of divulgation.&#8221; <I>Divulgation?<\/I> Hello? That word is so long out of use it<br \/>\nsmells of mothballs.
