The Imam’s defense lawyer contends that his client was wrongly sentenced to prison
\nfor encouraging violence against women. Why? Because he was merely following Islamic
\nteaching. “Freedom of expression wasn’t the right argument, it was freedom of religion that had to
\nbe protected,” he said. <\/P>
\n

Ain’t religion grand? Hell, the Imam isn’t a total brute. He urged husbands “not to hit their
\nwives on sensitive parts of the body” and to be gentle enough “so that the blows don’t leave scars
\nor bruises.”<\/P>
\n
