Bartley, editor emeritus of the<br \/>\nWall Street Journal editorial page, to congratulate him on winning the <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Presidential_Medal_of_Freedom\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>Presidential Medal of Freedom<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>. We hadn&#8217;t meant to<br \/>\noverlook such an august honor for a far-right&nbsp;ideologue, but on the day the award was<br \/>\nannounced we were tied up with <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20031130.shtml#62124\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>the fury of the cosmos<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> and <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives20031130.shtml#62096\"><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399><EM>Studs Terkel<\/EM><\/FONT><\/B><\/A>. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Not to worry: <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/washingtontimes.com\/op-ed\/20031204-083358-6457r.htm\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>The Washington Times<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> more than picked up the<br \/>\nslack, as did the <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/nation\/articles\/2003\/12\/04\/white_house_honors_conservative\n_journalist\/\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>Boston Globe<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>.<br \/>\nEven <A href=\"http:\/\/engforum.pravda.ru\/showthread.php3?s=&#038;threadid=46643\"><B><FONT\ncolor=#003399><EM>Pravda<\/EM><\/FONT><\/B><\/A><FONT\ncolor=#003399>&nbsp;<\/FONT><FONT color=#000000>chatters had some interesting things to<br \/>\nsay. <\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P>In keeping with the spirit of the giver and the receiver of the award, may we make a belated<br \/>\nsuggestion? How about presenting Bartley with a <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.kaisersbunker.com\/feldgrau\/helmets\/fgh05.htm\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>spiked helmet<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>&nbsp;to accompany the medal? He<br \/>\ncould wear both for formal occasions. The <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.kaisersbunker.com\/pe\/pe01e.htm\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>1860<br \/>\nmodel<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> would do nicely.
